Mountain Types
Folded Mountains
Forces from the sides of the rock layers cause the rock layers to buckle and fold forming mountains.
Upwarped Mountains
Forces from below the rock layers push upward, lifting portions of the rock layers up above the surface of the surrounding landscape
Fault-block Mountains
One section of rock moves up while the other moves down causing faults in the rocks. Many times the rock layers are tilted in the process
Volcanic Mountains
Magma erupts onto the surface of the ground forming a cone surrounding the volcanic vent.
