Cell Model Project

PROCEEDURE:

1. Build a cell model of a plant or animal cell.
2. The cell parts can not be represented by food items because they will spoil or some won't hold their shape.
3. Must have a different item to represent each of the cell parts.
4. The students must be able to identify each cell part and tell what its function is in the cell.

GRADING:

1. The student must identify what cell type they made (plant or animal). This is often drawn out of a hat.
2. The following is the list of cell parts that must be in their cells:

 Cell Membrane  Cell Wall
 Cytoplasm  Nuclear Membrane
 Nucleus  Chromatin
 Nucleoulus  Endoplasmic Reticulum
 Mitochondria Golgi Bodies
 Vacuoles  Ribosomes
 Chloroplast  Centrioles

3. The students can receive a max. of 2 pts. for each of the cell parts

1 pt. for identifying the cell part

1 pt. for telling what the cell parts job is.

4. The students also receive 2 pt. for identifying what type of cell they have made.
5. Maximum number of points equals 28 pts. for a plant cell and 26 pts. for an animal cell.

EXAMPLES:

1. Zip lock bags for the cell membrane or something that you can see through.
2. Glass jars or plastic bowls for the cell wall with the cell membrane inside.
3. Water for the cytoplasm.
4. Some students have made the model out of styrofoam with the cell parts attached or removable cell parts.
