How Do I Find My Grassland Cell?

The completion of this project will take two years. The Biology classes (sophomores) will be studying the biotic features of a plot of prairie located in Box Butte county. The Chemistry classes (juniors) will be studying the abiotic features of the same plot of land. Students will learn the basics of GPS operation in defining and locating their specific plot in the grid.

Listed below are steps that you will need to follow to find your group's individual cell of land in the classroom grid.

Finding and marking the grid.
1.You will be receiving longitude and latitude readings from your instructor. Turn on your GPSand find the point that matches the coordinates you were given and mark with a red flag.
2.Using the compass on your GPS, face south, and walk 10 paces, and mark point with flag.Repeat 10 times.
3.At the 10th flag, face east and walk 10 paces marking with flags as above.
4.Do the same facing north and west.
5.As a class, find where the flag points intersect and mark with a flag forming a grid.
